Many people after getting tired of my constant bickering about how great Android is ask, “Can your Android make you fly?” (OK that happened one time only). And I say, yes kind sire! You can fly with the best Android Flight Simulator Games available now on the Google Play Store.
There are a ton of great games available for Android; I have already covered some of the best racing games on the platform. But this article is about a different kind of speed, the speed that can only be attained by flight.
I admit, I’m not a fan of simulation games on either Android or on PC but have seen many enjoy the experience. One of the major reasons for me not getting into the games is their steep learning curve. Thankfully the Android Flight Simulator Games are not that hard to learn. Most of the games come with elaborate tutorials to guide you and your virtual aircraft.
Note: The best flight simulator games for Android were tested on a Samsung Galaxy Note III smartphone. The apps performed well and no problems were faced during the testing.
1. Infinite Flight Simulator – $4.99 with In-app Purchases
To Infinity and Beyond
Want to fly nice looking aircraft? With Infinite Flight Simulator you can do that with ease. The app brings a fully featured flight simulator to your Android device and offers some great experiences. The price you pay for this experience clearly shows in the app itself.
The aircrafts are meticulously designed and rival their real world counter parts in details. The app allows you to experience flight on a portable device like never before. Details like weight, balance configuration, time, weather conditions and other factors, all play a role in the game.
The only downside is that the game still offers in-app purchases (IAPS). I feel that once I pay for an app, it should offer everything, including updates. Infinite Flight Simulator is already a bit on the expensive side and still there are IAPS in it. It’s a great but an overall expensive flight experience for Android.
In-appPurchases: $2.99 – $49.99 per item
Comes with 17 aircrafts.
The app Flight Simulator app has 14 regions available to fly over.
It also has a great log book.
The app comes with all major airports. That is its great point but the app takes it further by including exact runway and taxiway layouts too.
2. Air Navy Fighters – Free and $2.99
Fight for Freedom
2.A Free Version
This one is a simplified Android flight simulator which will keep you on your toes. This is not really a simulator per say but does involve some aspects of that genre. I only included this because some may want to fly military fighter jets which can actually engage in combat. The graphs are OK but the gameplay is very well done especially if you consider the touch screen controls.
A great weather condition generation system.
Different time of day is included.
The tutorials are comprehensive.
The app successfully mixes simulation with arcade action. If you are looking for some action with real life jets, get this game.
2.B Paid Version
The paid version of the app allows you to download fresh new-scenario missions. The light version only has free flight mode.
3. PicaSim – Free and $3.50
3.A Free Version
Now this is something extremely useful. I remember crashing my RC plane into a tree when I was young, I cried for days. If I had this free Android flight simulator game back then, I would have practised on it before actually flying a RC plane. This app which may sound like a mash between Pokémon and The Sims is actually a really neat remote controlled aircraft simulation. The controls and the responsiveness of the planes are really close to the real experience.
Light graphics which can run on lesser devices too.
Comes with advanced mechanics and controls.
The app has multiple viewing angles.
Even though the graphics are not taxing on the hardware, some of the locations are actually quite stunning. The app really nails the experience of flying your own RC plane out in the open.
3.B Paid Version
The free version of this Android Flight simulator game is completely ad-free, which is a great thing on its own. The paid version however comes with races, some extra planes including a quad copter and new terrains.
4. CHAOS Combat Copters – Free and $0.99
Do Some Damage
4.A Free Version
CHAOS Combat Copters is the only app which features a lot of copters on the top Android flight simulator games list. I had to include this app not because it is a simulation but because there are some awesome looking choppers in there.
The app is less simulation and more arcade action but the tilt controls combined with great looking copters make it a treat to play. The app comes with realistic and highly detailed helicopter models from top manufactures.
Real world locations to fly over.
Comes with 8 training missions.
Highly detailed statistics and combat achievements.
The game has some mechanics which are only found in best RPG games for Android. You can upgrade and improve your helicopters as you go making the overall experience much more rewarding.
4.B HD Version
The HD version of the app comes with high resolution graphics and improved sound. It is also only capable of running on a competent Android device.
5. F18 Carrier Landing II – Free and $5.99
5.A Free Version
F18 Carrier Landing II is the best carrier landing experience you can get from any of the Android flight simulator games. The game allows you to land one of the best combat aircrafts using a purpose built landing system. Landing a jet on a carrier is one of the most difficult tasks. The landing strip is only 150 meters long which is marginally enough to stop the plane. The app replicates the tension very vividly.
Comes with 6 training missions to ready you.
There are landing competitions with worldwide ranking too.
The camera system and the replay features are great.
The app allows you to connect two devices together to have one of the cool android flight simulator experiences on offer. Use one device as a controller and other as full-fledged view.
5.B Paid Version
The paid version of the game opens up everything which is restricted in the free app. Sure you can purchase the things you want in the free app with in-app purchases but if you want the full package in one go, this is the app for you.
6. Airplane Fly Hawaii – Free with In-app Purchases
Want to fly a plane to Hawaii? Better yet want to fly 42 different planes to Hawaii? This free Android flight simulator game allows you to do that. The game itself is a good looking one with ample tutorials to ease you into the game. Initially the game only offers 2 aircrafts but if you enjoy the game, you can purchase more or earn more just by playing.
In-appPurchases: $0.99 – $11.99 per item
Comes with short tutorial mission.
Take off and land in style.
Multiple camera angles are available.
The maps are surprisingly well detailed and Hawaii looks great from the air.
7. X-Plane 9 – Free with In-app Purchases
One of the good Android Flight simulator games around, X-Plane 9 takes the simulation seriously. The app comes with everything you expect from a competent flight simulator app for Android.
The app is a gold standard for accurate flight simulation which offers features which make the flying as realistic as possible on a mobile device. One of the most surprising things I found about the game is that it features simulated system failures, a feature which is missing from other games of this nature.
In-appPurchases: $0.99 per item
Comes with 10 free aircrafts.
Fly at day, night, dusk or dawn.
Fling in different weather conditions.
The developers of the app are really responsive. They even urge you to call or email them if you run into any problems.
8. Absolute RC – Free with In-app Purchases
This is another good RC plane simulation but with even smoother controls. There are only two joy sticks on the screen and you can completely control the virtual plane with them. The controls might take a little while to get used to but once you do get the hang of them, its smooth sailing from there on.
In-appPurchases: $0.99 – $19.99 per item
Comes with 4 free models.
The follow camera is a great feature.
Comes with a good weather system.
It’s the only app which also comes with cars and boats in the Android flight simulator games list. Unfortunately the cars and boats don’t fly.
9. Airplane Pilot Simulator – Free
Easy Does It
Airplane Pilot Simulator 3D 2015 has a very long name but very less aircrafts. I didn’t get a lot of time with the app but it seems there is only one commercial airplane for you to fly. Thankfully the rest of the game makes up for the one small problem. The app has a great reward based system for gameplay. This Android flight simulator app comes with easy to use accelerometer based tilt controls.
Some nice camera angles.
Turbulence and harsh weather conditions.
Dynamic lighting makes the game look great.
You can actually use real life instruments in the game. This gives another layer of authenticity to the app.
10. Flight Simulator – Free
Go Through Loops
This last app on the list is about flying planes and landing them (yeah really). But there is a slight twist in the general formula; do you remember that awful Superman 64 video game? If not, Google it and it will show up as one of the worst videogame in history. This game follows a similar path of going through rings but the tilt controls makes the experience much better. The simulation is only there when taking off or landing, the rest is arcade fun all the way.
Controls are fairly well implemented.
Level ends when you actually park the aircraft.
Simplistic simulation elements keep things simple.
It’s a relatively small app. The graphics are OK at best but the app will run on almost any Android device easily.
Well this concludes the 10 best Android flight simulator games list. I hope these apps will satisfy your desire to fly. I know these are not as elaborate as the simulators available on PC but hey they still do a pretty decent job.
