You don’t have to live with those pesky watermarks ruining a perfectly good image or video you have. It doesn’t take a Photoshop professional or even professional software to get rid of watermarks and logos. The tools available make it quite simple, so you can even do it right from your smartphone.
That’s why we’re going over the easiest ways to remove a watermark from an image or video on your Android phone. While their capabilities won’t stack up to more advanced, paid options, here are the best two free apps.
1. Photo Healer
Photo Healer is a free app for Android that can get rid of unwanted objects in photos including watermarks and logos. The entire app is basically just a dedicated retouching tool.
Go into the app and select the photo from your gallery you want to edit. Now draw an outline around the area with a watermark. Do this with care, since Photo Healer doesn’t allow you to draw outside the boundaries of the photo or even zoom in for precision. Then click the Heal button.
It didn’t work perfectly for me the first time. In fact, in the above image it just replaced the watermark with more flowers. But after a few more iterations, Photo Healer produced a fairly good outcome for a free app. You can always click the Undo button if you don’t like the direction your edits are going in.
Note: Photo Healer works best when a watermark itself is not on a complex background. You may need to outline and heal the area more than once to eventually get your desired result.
2. Remove Logo from Video
Remove Logo from Video, as the title of the app might suggest, lets you remove watermarks and logos from videos. It’s a free app for Android.
All you need to do is import the downloaded video clip from your gallery. Click the Plus icon to do this. Then, resize the box around the preview clip only around the area with a watermark or logo. Preview the video to ensure the watermark doesn’t move around during it, then select Remove Logo when you’re ready.
This isn’t a fast process. The time it takes to remove the watermark is about as long as the video itself, so try not to choose lengthy videos for this.
Note: For best results, choose a video with a watermark or logo that doesn’t animate or move around in frame. Additionally, you’ll get the most success if the background is relatively consistent throughout the video. Even the best image and video editing tools can’t perfectly remove a watermark with objects constantly moving behind it.
The end result isn’t perfect, but it’s not bad either. It just ends up looking like there’s a slight glitch in one small part of the video, which depending on your priorities, is still better than a flashy logo.
Important: These apps serve but one purpose: to remove imperfections in photos. If you’re interested in more advanced photo-editing on Android, check out these free Photoshop alternatives.
