We’re continuing with our tradition of showcasing crowd-funded projects that could be interesting to your as an Android enthusiast. Featuring new and exciting ideas at the beginning of each month, we help you sift through the hundreds of projects filling Kickstarter and Indiegogo to find the rare gems that are worth contributing to.
This month, however, is quite special since there are so many already funded and quite original projects. That’s why I will pick 5 projects to discuss, then link to several others that are worth considering as well. Read on to discover them all.
Canary is a small and incredibly smart home security device. With an integrated camera with night vision, a microphone, motion detection, a temperature sensor, and air quality and humidity monitors, the Canary is as equipped as the best home alarm systems. It even packs a siren for intruders. The killer feature however is Canary’s continuous encrypted live streaming along with Android and iPhone controlling apps. The app will alert you to changes in your home, and let you pick appropriate responses. It will even arm and disarm the system depending on your location.

Even though I had dismissed the Invisible Gamepad by its title a few weeks ago, I decided to take a closer look this week, and it took me less than a minute to pledge. In one sentence, the Invisible Gamepad is everything I never knew I needed to improve my gaming experience on my touchscreen devices. It’s an invisible film with raised edges, cut as several different controllers — digital pads, button pads, buttons and analogue pads — that you can stick on your screen over the touchscreen controls. This helps provide tactile feedback while playing a game, and hence improves your accuracy.

Entry price is currently $7. Estimated delivery is October 2013 and the project is already fully funded with 19 days to go.
The iblazr is the second project on this list that I backed, because it’s utterly cool and useful. 4 LEDs are packed into this small unit that goes into your phone’s 3.5mm headset plug. It works synchronously with its own camera app (or compatible third-party apps) to trigger the flash when you take a photo, illuminating your dark surroundings a lot better than your phone’s small single LED. That’s perfect for outdoor and indoor night photos and videos. The iblazr can also be plugged into your computer’s USB port to charge it and provide a small light while typing or reading in the dark.

Glowdeck is an all-in-one device that wirelessly charges your mobile device, plays music through bluetooth speakers, takes voice commands through an integrated microphone, and provides glowing light notifications for missed calls, unread SMS messages and more. The unit is even portable and offers a WiFi-connected display that works as a smart clock with time, weather and date.

Plug is a smart solution to the multiple storage devices inside your home. Connect it to your router, then plug any USB storage device (flash drives or hard disk drives) into it to make it available over the network to all of your devices. All of your computers, Android phones and tablets, iOS devices and connected TVs, can share this unified storage. You can even pick which files to make available offline when you leave home or don’t have access to an internet connection.
