Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are two of the best smartphones on the market but you shouldn’t buy either one of them right now if you can help it.
In September, Apple took to the stage to announce two brand new iPhones dubbed iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The devices took over flagship duties from the iPhone 5s and quickly went on sale in countries around the world including the United States.
Apple’s two big screen iPhones are getting older but they’re still in excellent shape thanks to their hardware specs, their upgraded software (soon to be iOS 9) and a price tags that have gradually fallen as we’ve entered the summertime.
These are two phones that we’ve been using for close to a year now and two phones that we typically recommend. Right now we don’t recommend buying the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus if you can help it.
We realize that everyones situation is a little bit different and that some of you will have to buy a new phone between now and the beginning of September.
If you simply can’t hold off right now, and you decide that you want an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, make sure you don’t pay full price for either device. There’s no reason you should pay top dollar for either with a new iPhone launch this close.
iPhone 6s Launch Date
Now is a great time to hold off on buying the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. There are a number of reasons why we think it’s a good idea for a lot of people but the best might be the fact that the iPhone 6s launch date has been all but confirmed.
Last week, a report from a credible source outlined Apple’s plans for the iPhone 6s launch event. The company will reportedly launch the iPhone 6s on September 9th, or, just a few short weeks from now.
This date isn’t confirmed but the source has provided accurate information in the past and it’s a date that you can circle in pen in the calendar.
What this means is that we now have an iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s launch timeline and it looks a little something like this:
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus launch on September 9th.
By waiting for the iPhone 6s launch date, you open yourself up to two more iPhone options. And by waiting for the iPhone 6s release date, you’ll be able to physically compare the devices together, something that you should do before settling on the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.
iPhone 6s Specs
It helps that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will most likely be worthy successors to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
iPhone 6s rumors point to some notable upgrades including more firepower under the hood, a new Force Touch display, improved cameras, and more. Here is a run down of the rumored iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s specifications. These aren’t confirmed yet.
iPhone 6s (Rumored)
4.7-inch Retina Display (iPhone 6s)
5.5-inch Retina Display (iPhone 6s Plus)
Force Touch displays
A9 processor with Qualcomm chip (faster LTE, improved battery)
12MP rear camera/5MP FaceTime camera
16/32GB / 64GB / 128GB storage
While they probably won’t come with a redesign or Quad HD resolution, the two rumored iPhone 6s models look like they will make improvements in key areas including their design.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are capable phones and they’ll likely improve once Apple rolls out the iOS 9 update.
That said, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus look like they’ll focus on some extremely important areas and to us, the specs alone make them worth the wait at this point.
Galaxy Note 5 & Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
If you’re interested in the iPhone 6 Plus, you’ve probably looked at the Galaxy Note series. Samsung’s Galaxy Note series is a top competitor for the iPhone 6 Plus and in some ways, it’s the better phone.
This week, Samsung is going to be announcing two new big screen smartphones including a brand new Galaxy Note called Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is rumored to have numerous enhancements on board including a beautiful display, improved processor, premium design and more. On paper it looks like it will be a worthy opponent to the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus.
Samsung will probably be making another announcement at its August 13th event. The company is heavily rumored to have a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus up its sleeve. The device is expected to be a blown up 5.5-inch version of the Galaxy S6 Edge.
The Galaxy S6 Edge is a strong iPhone 6 competitor and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will probably be a worth opponent for both the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus.
Samsung’s event is on Thursday and in our eyes, there’s no reason you should buy the iPhone 6 Plus anytime before then.
Nexus & Android M
Rumor has it, Google’s cooking up new Nexus phones to go along with its upcoming Android M update.
Android M is confirmed for Q3 which means that it will be released before the end of next month. And that means that we should get a Nexus announcement before the end of September as well.
Google is reportedly set to release two new Nexus phones that match up nicely with Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 and rumored iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Nothing is confirmed but it’s looking like we’ll see a Nexus 6 2015 (from Huawei) and a Nexus 5 2015 (from LG). The Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 are two of our favorite smartphones and from what we’ve seen, their successors will build on the foundations they left behind.
It’s looking like we only have a few weeks to go before these devices materialize so if you can, you should wait for Google to make its big mobile announcements of the year.
T-Mobile is offering a solid iPhone 6 deal that allows buyers to purchase the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus right now and then upgrade to the new models before the end of the year.
We’ve also seen a number of other iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus deals emerge in the past few weeks. And while these offers are tempting, we expect there to be a number of huge deals on the iPhone and other devices in the next few weeks.
With a Galaxy Note 5 on the way, expect the price on big screen Androids like the Galaxy Note 4 and LG G4 to take a dip. We’ve already seen the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge drop in price but we expect more carriers to hop on the deal train in late August and September.
We also expect some of the best iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus deals to emerge after Apple announces the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Carriers and retailers will look to get rid of their old stock and we wouldn’t be surprised if someone offered a free iPhone 6 in the weeks ahead.
So to recap, here’s what you’ll be looking at if you wait a few days to buy a new phone, be it the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or something else:
iPhone 6s/iPhone 6s Plus
Several top iPhone rivals from Android manufacturers
Cheaper phones including cheaper iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
Obviously, we know that everyones situation is a little bit different but you’ll want to keep all of this in mind before you run down to your local store to buy the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus.
