Back in September, we unveiled our next-generation Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, alongside the world’s first 4K display smartphone Xperia Z5 Premium.* Each engineered to make everyday life better – we’ve created a mobile camera experience unlike any other with Sony’s latest digital imaging innovation.
You’ve probably already heard about Z5’s fast autofocus (clocked at 0.03 seconds** – faster than the blink of a human eye no less) and 5x clear image zoom, but there are also lots of other features that will add bundles of fun to your snaps. We’ve put together five camera features you should me making the most of:
AR mask Xperia Z5 has a load of brand new apps that add an extra element of fun to your photography. Take AR mask – one of our favourite features. The app works when you take a selfie, scanning your face in real time, before replacing it with a pre-set face. Fancy being a lion for the day? Or maybe you’re more gorilla? The app comes with plenty of choices, bringing hours of enjoyment. Be warned though, the results can be quite scary! Here’s one we tried earlier…
Style Portrait If AR mask is a little too intense for you, try out ‘Style Portrait’. By cleverly detecting your facial features and allowing you to automatically apply styles to your selfies, this app will give you the ultimate digital makeover. The app has been updated with 8 new effects including ‘glitter’ and ‘bubble’. So from red lips to movie star glamour or a splash of paint, your selfies will never be the same again.
Staying on the topic of selfies, whilst not a new feature Xperia Z5’s Smile Shutter™ might just be something you haven’t tried yet. Smile Shutter works by detecting a face just as it smiles and then automatically taking a picture. It saves the blur that can come from tapping the screen and takes away the risk of getting your hand in front of your friend’s face. All you need to do is click the menu, turn the Smile Shutter on and then choose from a small smile, an average smile or a big smile. Easy!
Manual mode Xperia Z5’s camera is designed to give you freedom and lets you tailor your settings to get a unique photo. Not only does the manual mode allow you to define the type of focus, ISO and control exposure – you can also control white balance and enable HDR, meaning whatever and wherever you’re snapping, you can get picture perfect every time!
Scene settings Staying in Manual mode, Z5 has a selection of pre-configured settings so that you can quickly choose the best mode for the situation you’re in. Firework mode is not only perfect for stunning, colourful shots but is also great in low light conditions. Check out Zoe Noble’s nightscapes in Berlin. She used Z5’s “Fireworks” setting to capture the lights of the last U-Bahn and Berlin’s neon signs.
