The Gionee Elife S5.5 was unveiled last month as the new holder of the title of ‘world’s thinnest smartphone’, and it’s set to go on sale later this month. In China, the release date for the Elife S5.5 is going to be March 18, so next Tuesday.
Right now we don’t know of any other country in which Gionee will sell the 5.5 mm thin device, but during the official announcement the company said we should expect it in no less than 40 countries. That rollout will probably start later, though.
The Gionee Elife S5.5 will be priced at 2,299 yuan in China. That’s around $374 or €269 at the current exchange rates. It’s clearly not a handset that wants to capitalize on its thinness by being more expensive than it should. Its specs are more than decent for this price range, and there’s always that unique selling point of its slimness. However, do expect it to be more expensive once it leaves China, since for some reason things are usually like that.
The phone has a 5-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen, a 1.7 GHz octa-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, all the usual connectivity options, and a 2,300 mAh battery. It runs Gionee’s Amigo Android-based OS.
