The infamous Chinese clone makers strike again. This time, they’ve churned out a 7-inch iPhone 5S. No, really. While such companies usually stick to releasing 1-to-1 clones of famous devices with lower end specs (and thus lower pricing), or at most keep the sizes of their devices close enough to the originals, sometimes though they think out of the box, so to speak. That’s when they envision things like a 7-inch iPhone.
So look, it’s the device for you if you love the iPhone 5S design, but think that phone is way too small for this day and age. Sure, 7-inch phones may not be all the rage now, but then 5-to-6-inch phones were considered ridiculous three years ago, and look where we are now. So this Chinese clone is, in fact, extremely forward-thinking, one might say.
In terms of clones, this isn’t 100% though. Yes, the design is similar, but the aspect ratio is a bit off and the back side, while featuring the three-stage design, gets the proportions wrong. Still, it’s an interesting effort. Do note the hilarious “Designed in USA” label at the bottom of the back, where you usually find Apple’s “Designed in California”. Sure, if USA is the name of a neighborhood in Shenzhen, then this becomes plausible.
So what do you get inside the beast? A 7-inch 1,280×800 touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz dual-core MediaTek processor, 1 GB of RAM, and the ancient Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. The price is 500 yuan (around $82), which isn’t surprising considering what’s on offer here.
