Verizon has been known for releasing a number of Android tablets on their network and while these are often from name-brands such as Samsung and more recently, Sony, the company started shipping their own Android tablet last year. Dubbed Ellipsis, the 7-inch tablet was an interesting device for Verizon and while it didn’t offer much for its $249 price tag, it was mercifully loaded with stock Android and it could also double as a wireless hotspot as well. Now, it seems that Verizon is about ready to introduce a slightly larger version of the Ellipsis tablet ready for the Holiday Season.
While @evleaks may have ‘retired’, he’s recently took to Twitter to show off a very small image of what looks like a new tablet to come from Verizon very soon. In essence, it looks like an 8-inch version of the Ellipsis is about to launch as the link that Evan shared has a URL ending “ellipsis8-hotdeals.png”. As the current version is listed as the Ellipsis 7, it seems likely this is the successor to last year’s budget-minded tablet. From the very small image that’s been located on Big Red’s servers, it looks like the Ellipsis 8 is to launch with stock Android 4.4 KitKat and the age old Amazon apps on the homepage pretty much confirm that this is a Verizon tablet. For $249, last year’s Ellipsis 7 was a good deal and featured similar specs and performance to Google’s Nexus 7.
There’s no telling when the Ellipsis 8 will launch or how much it’ll retail for, but last year’s tablet launched in November and cost $249. We can’t see Verizon shaking up their pricing too much as the Ellipsis is one of the best value devices in Big Red’s lineup.
