If you’re already lusting after the lighter, thinner iPad Air announced this week, you’re gonna need a new case to protect that fragile form factor. The leading case makers are frantically working on that, with most of them announcing cases and accessories that are expected to arrive just in time for the November release date. A few well known companies have already made it out of the gate, showcasing new styles and designs, while others have refreshed their already popular lines. Check out the collection below of which ones impressed us so far.
Speck’s StyleFolio is a stylish way to show off your new iPad Air or iPad mini with Retina display. The cover is made of easy-to-hold vegan leather that wraps around to fit and protect the bottom, sides and corners. Ridges along the inside let you adjust the tablet to your most comfortable viewing angle. We especially like the locking clasp feature that secures your device inside when you’re on the go.
StyleFolio will be $39.95 for iPad Air and $34.95 for iPad mini with Retina display; available in November.
Belkin’s new offerings run the gamut from a Keyboard Case for iPad Air to form-fitting cases for the Air and iPad mini with Retina display. True to Belkin’s past, they all come in a wide variety of head-turning colors and finishes.
The Qode Thin Type Keyboard Case for iPad Air is a protective screen cover and Bluetooth keyboard in one. The unibody aluminum shell offers two angles for viewing your iPad in both landscape and portrait mode and is less than 4mm thin. That is thin enough to not add significant bulk to your new svelte iPad. The keyboards’s rechargeable battery claims 79 hours of active battery life. We’ll be putting it through the paces once it hits shelves. The Qode Thin Type Keyboard Case for iPad Air will be available for $99.99 in November.
Belkin’s FormFit Cover for iPad Air also offers an ultra-thin exterior with multiple angles for viewing or typing inside a secure, fitted frame. We like that it comes in a two-tone color design with stylish color options such as fuschia, lavender and of course, purple. Available for $39.99 in November.
Targus’ Versavu line will be available for the iPad Air, as will their popular Notepad Folio. The new Versavu Keyboard case, available for $99.99 in November will include a 360-degree rotating screen for landscape or portrait viewing.
M-Edge iPad Mini and iPad Air Cases
M-Edge is launching cases for both the new iPad mini and iPad Air. We’re intrigued by the Stealth line which features a silicone mount for proper fit and offers multiple viewing angles. It comes in a variety of colors and is made of super-smooth coated leather.
Waterfield Designs: Outback Solo
Fashionable tech users will want to check out the Outback Solo from WaterField Designs. It says solo but it screams duo since it has room for the new iPad Air as well as your iPhone, charger, and a wallet or keys. You can carry it clutch style or purchase the optional strap which transforms it into a funky looking over-the-shoulder bag. It’s comprised of neoprene for protection and leather for a smooth look and feel. Available for $69 in November.
Otterbox’s popular Defender cases will be re-designed for the iPad Air and iPad mini. We love the Defender’s tough-as-nails polycarbonate shell and built-in screen protector. The Defender Series for iPad mini with Retina display is available for pre-order in black now.
Joy Factory Cases
The Joy Factory is amping up its flagship line of SmartSuit and Folio360 cases to accommodate the new slimmer iPad Air. We like the SmartSuit because it covers your back end, something left vulnerable by many smart covers on the market. The synthetic leather front cover is available for $59.95 in silver, bronze and fuchsia pink.
Griffin Survivor Cases
Last but not least, if you’re a fan of Griffin’s Survivor cases like we are, (read: klutzy) the $79.99 Survivor for iPad Air protects your new device in style. It’s made of shatter-resistant polycarbonate and shock-absorbing silicone, protecting from the elements such as rain, dirt and yes, accidental drops. It’s available in fun color combinations like black and pink or black and purple.
