Old fashioned aerobatic combat app that pitches you – the valiant American air-ace hero – against the himmel-hogging Hun in a WWII dog-fight to the death. And if that doesn’t appeal you’re probably German…
Yes, whilst war is war and, as Basil Fawlty pointed out, they ‘started it’, it must be tough being a German gamer when you’re always the villains, especially when the game is less than historically accurate. But, regardless, in the world of AirAttack HD you can chose between a Lockheed Lightning or Thunderbolt (US) with which to rain down hot metal liberty on a range of German tanks, gunboats, planes, zeppelins and what appears to be a massive Teutonic flying saucer.
But artistic aviation license aside, gameplay is great and becomes utterly immersive as you battle through detailed 3D graphics over eight missions, shooting and bombing wave after wave of Ally-be-gone enemies to win the war single fingeredly.
As you progress through missions, bringing ever more righteous destruction to the original axis of evil, you can pick up weapon upgrades and turn your little prop plane into a airborne death machine – something which makes the step up from the Easy level to Medium that little bit more plausible. Or at least it might be for players better than me.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Old school style awesomeness with cool controls (touch and tap), excellent graphics and effects (plenty of attention has been paid to explosions), and a stirring orchestral soundtrack, AirAttack HD is, quite simply, hours of non-stop dog-fighting fun that’s difficult to fault. Unless, as I said earlier, you’re German and getting a bit sick of game developers who just won’t let it go…
