Air Traffic Control isn’t a game. Well, actually it appears that it is. But it’s also a serious business. In fact that’s not even necessarily true. In the case of Airport Mania it’s more of a cartoon romp through the various functions of an airport with various tasks that need to be completed as quickly as efficiently as possible to keep the airport running smoothly.
Airport Mania begins with a quick tutorial, teaching you the basics of landing planes, unloading them, parking them in layover spaces, refuelling and repairing them, and then launching them skyward again.
Once you’ve completed the comprehensive tutorial, it’s on to the game proper. You begin your career in a basic airport with a couple of gates and gradually build up to bigger and better airports as you become more adept at landing and servicing planes. Along the way you can update your current airport with new layover spaces (where planes park that you currently have no room for on the stand or in refuelling/repair), upgraded gates to speed passenger loading and unloading, and other goodies to keep your planes – who in all their cartoon glory have emotions – happy.
If you can keep the planes moving and keep their mood bars in the green, you’re onto a winner. Take too long to move the planes around the airport and back into the sky and your planes become upset and that affects your score.
Aside from the whole upgrading airports/landing planes thing, there’s also a trophy room to keep tabs on your progress as you break records for the most planes landed in one session, the most planes repaired, delivering a baby on the ground rather than in the air, and the speedy delivery of an organ for donation to name but a few.
The Bottom Line
Mind-boggling, finger-twisting cerebrally-challenging game that’ll keep you entertained for hours.
