We ran an iPad Mini rumor this morning, so we may as well looks towards the iPhone now, right? An alleged iPhone 5 image has leaked online, showing off what could be the front-facing panel Apple’s upcoming iPhone. This image—posted by the Chinese blog Apple.pro—shows a larger screen-size than the iPhone 4S, with a centered FaceTime camera (above the speaker grill).
Aside from those cosmetic changes, the front panel design remains untouched from the current iPhone. There’s a circular space for a the home button below the glass display (like all Apple devices) and a proximity sensor near the phone earpiece.
The larger screen could have a wider aspect ratio of 16:9 in landscape mode, suggesting Apple is updating the new phone with a 4-inch display screen.
Reports peg the release date to be around October, with rumors from Japanese blog Macotakara (citing reliable sources from Asian suppliers) that Apple’s next generation iPhone has already gone into production in China. They suggest the new iPhone 5 will probably see a release around September or October (about a year after the launch of the iPhone 4S).
