It has long been rumoured that Amazon would enter the smartphone market with a low cost phone featuring their own highly customized version of Android. Many believed that they would be producing their own hardware but according to a new report, HTC may be supplying the devices for Amazon.
According to the Financial Times, HTC and Amazon are currently working on three devices, one of which is in “an advanced stage of development.” Sources state that there’s no timeline for a launch at this point and that it’s possible that they may ditch the project altogether. However, if they do go ahead with the phone, the source says that it would likely not come until 2014.
As you all know, HTC has been struggling financially as of late so this could potentially be a really good partnership for the company. And at the very least, it couldn’t go much worse than their partnership with Facebook right?
