If you’re looking to buy an Xbox One bundled with a Kinect directly from Amazon, it seems like that option is currently no longer viable. The online retailer is no longer selling the Kinect bundled Xbox One systems themselves, which means you’ll need to go through a third party to snag one.
This doesn’t really affect the availability of the Kinect bundled Xbox Ones immediately, but it does suggest that the sales of the camera peripheral packed consoles aren’t selling well enough for Amazon to carry the package themselves.
Microsoft dropped the mandatory $500 price tag for the Xbox One along with the required Kinect back in June, and then started selling the console separately for $399 instead of $499. There were no plans to cancel the Kinect bundle, so this news from Amazon comes as a sort of surprise.
When Microsoft made the announcement that it would sell a Kinect-less Xbox One, I wrote up a story about how that signals the death of the peripheral. I stand by that story, and you can check it out here.
This Amazon listing could change. It could be that the company is simply out of Xbox One with Kinect stock. Though, as it’s gearing up for the holidays, I sort of find that notion hard to believe. I think Amazon made the decision to drop that particular Xbox One SKU, but that thought is simply a guess at this point.
