Sure, the Fire Phone has its flaws — maybe a few more than most other smartphones in its price range. But when its price tag is reduced to just £99, you’re going to struggle to find a device with comparable specifications that’s as cheap.
In addition to its 4.7-inch 720p display, the Fire Phone packs a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization. Fire Phone also comes with some unique services like unlimited cloud storage, Mayday, and Firefly technology.
The £99 price tag gets you the entry-level 32GB Fire Phone, but if you’re willing to spend a little more, you can get the 64GB model for £149 (approx. $226). Both devices come with free shipping… but there is one, rather large caveat.
All Fire Phone handsets in the U.K. are locked to O2, so although this one is off-contract, you’ll still need an O2 SIM card to use it — or you’re going to need to try to get it unlocked, which could be tricky. But if you are an O2 customer and you can live with Fire OS, this is a killer deal.
