MOUNTAIN VIEW, USA – Google announced that the Android 4.4 version will be named KitKat, the world-famous chocolate from Nestle.
Google first approached Nestle in late November 2012 for the partnership. After a meeting at Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona this February, the deal was finalized in only one hour.
Android 4.4 is rumoured to be released in either October or November with the upcoming Google Nexus 5.
Although no monetary exchange occurred between the parties, substantial promotional activities are being carried out. About 50 million KitKat bars sporting Android branding will be sold in 19 countries that will give buyers a chance to win Google Nexus 7 and Google Play gift cards.
All along Google also had to make arrangements with the Hershey’s as the company owns license to manufacture the chocolate in USA, a significant market for Google. However, the final deal is between Nestle and Google.
Following the public revelation, the main page of KitKat website has been built up with meticulous details that are quite as talking about a hardware device.
