Samsung has already promised they would be making available the latest Android 4.0 ICS onto their Galaxy Tab 8.9 though that is not before 2012. Also no one known for sure when in 2012 that is going to happen though such a scenario is surely not to the liking of a few enterprising XDA members who decided to take matters onto their own hands and get things done themselves.
No points for guessing what comes out of their painstaking efforts — three of their 8.9 inch Galaxy Tabs running Android 4.0.3 ICS. However, before you think its a fairy tale like ending that we have next where the tablet and its owner get to live happily ever after basking in the glory of Google’s latest and best Android effort so far, well that unfortunately is not to be. For the build is far from complete with far too many issues still present to deem it a success.
Things that are working right now include Bluetooth, GPS, accelerometer, and hardware acceleration while efforts are currently on to include Wi-Fi to that list. Any way, there is no way you can have the custom ROM even if you think you can live with just these functionalities as the group has decided against pushing ahead with a public release unless they have the ports responding as well. That’s not bad as its still likely to be earlier than Samsung’s official ICS offering for the Galaxy Tab 8.9.
