August is prime road trip time. The kids are getting restless, school doesn’t start for a few more weeks, and everyone could use a change of scenery.
If you’re headed on a road trip (or are just looking for a way to survive the dog days of summer from your lawn chair), we have lots of NOOK Apps that will keep your family entertained. Below are just a few that I’ve enjoyed on recent trips, but you can explore the full range of game apps here.
Quell Memento is one of our highest-rated apps, and once I started playing, I could immediately see why. This beautiful puzzle game is set in an abandoned house, and with each new challenge, you help put the jumbled memories of the house’s former occupant back in order. It’s a pleasure to take on each of the 140 puzzles, and even more fun to see how they each fit into the bigger picture. Quell Memento is a unique experience that really immerses you in an exciting new world of gameplay.
Rayman Jungle Run is a madcap adventure featuring the always-entertaining Rayman. As I get older I find myself reminiscing about the video games of my 1980s youth, and Rayman is perfectly cut from that same cloth, but even better. You’ll help Rayman run, jump, fly, and punch his way through 7 different worlds with 70 total levels—including a pirate ship that will shiver your timbers. This is one game that will keep you and your kids jostling for control of the family NOOK.
Word puzzles are a tradition in my house, and we’ve spent countless hours on family trips playing some of our favorites. I’m proud to add 4 Pics 1 Word Puzzle to my family’s list of favorite word games. The concept is simple: you’re presented with four pictures, and you need to determine which word they all have in common. It’s not as easy as it sounds, though, and I promise that even the most seasoned lexicographer will meet their match along the way.
