There are museums across the country, and around the globe. Not every museum is near you, but you can browse some museum collections right on your iPhone thanks to a variety of apps. Dinosaurs: The American Museum of Natural History Collections was recently updated to connect with the new “Dinosaurs Among Us” exhibit that debuted in March. The American Museum of Natural History is in New York City, but you don’t have to be in New York to see the dinosaur fossils included in the Museum’s collection.
The app presents a series of photos grouped by dinosaur allowing you to view all of the fossil photos of T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Velociraptor, and even the 122 foot Titanosaur, just discovered in 2014. The photos include the entire fossil structure, individual bones, artist illustrations, and more. Each photo is also accompanied by text that seems like it’s printed on the panels next to the fossils in the museum. There’s 25 sections in the app to offer a lot of information to discover including behind the scenes of the researchers at the museum. It would be nice to get a little video content or 360 degree panorama views, or even a little more in-depth text, but that doesn’t take away from what is included.
Dinosaurs: The American Museum of Natural History Collections (Free, iPhone) is a neat utility if you have even remote interest in dinosaurs.
