There are a number of ways to record videos with your iPhone, but most rely on quicklow quality clips. Directr on the other hand, aligns more with iMovie by focusing on helping you create mini-movies. Storyboards are the highlight of the app with multiple categories to choose from to give you a specific sequence of shots to aim for. Categories include pets, travel, holidays, seasonal, outdoors, collections, baby, and more. You’re then given ideas, for instance a dog movie asks for a close-up, then walking, fetching, and rolling over mixed in with clips of you interacting with your dog.
You can always start from scratch as well, and unlike most other videos apps you can record for an unlimited length, with an unlimited number of scenes to best tell your story. There’s also the ability to trim scenes, add captions, and drag and drop to rearrange, or delete clips. You can also add in your own audio narration, or choose from the built-in soundtrack or your own music library. Directr is feature rich to say the least, and all of it is effortless to interact with highlighted by the quick record function. A minimalistic interface ties the whole package together allowing for constant focus on the movie at hand. Also, the app is iOS 7 ready with the appropriate design elements.
Directr (Free, iPhone) was just updated to version 2.0, which offers up the whole new interface we mentioned, while maintaining the ideas of making deluxe home movies with minimal effort and set-up.
