Health & fitness can take shape through many possibilities, but one thing you should try to do everyday is get some extended physical activity. Human is a new app to track your physical activity with a simple goal in mind; move for 30 minutes a day. It’s a simple goal, but far too many people don’t reach it, and it can be such a key contributor to good health. The app works similarly to other fitness apps like Moves in tracking your movement, but it’s not just a pedometer and movement tracker. Instead, it focuses on minutes of activity, and it has certain thresholds to track so walking around the house, or to the break room doesn’t classify. Human doesn’t track all of your steps, and instead just the ones that offer consecutive physical activity.
The main screen simply shows a progress circle counting up to 30 minutes of activity, and the app can track walking, running, or biking. If you tap on the circle, your activity for the day is brought up in a list view showing the time and type of activity. There’s also a map view to show where your activity has spanned during the day. The app tracks your daily and weekly minutes, as well as your streak of hitting 30 minutes per day, consecutively. One of the best parts, is that the app works automatically in the background with passive tracking, so it gathers data once launched rather than actively using GPS and battery. One caveat is that the app tracks physical activity based on distance, so it doesn’t work the best for exercises at one location, like the gym for example.
Human (Free, iPhone) has a very specific purpose with a clean design that just may work to get you moving for at least 30 minutes a day, everyday.
