FreeMagazines have been around for over a century in print, and many publication are trying to make the transition to digital layouts. Hyper is a new iPad magazine that is all about videos with a flowing front page. The app features six to 12 videos a day, and each one is hand picked for quality and topic. Hyper sources videos from National Geographic, BBC, TED, Wired, independent YouTube & Vimeo channels, and more.
All of the daily included videos are presented through a single scrolling page with a grid layout that presents thumbnails showing looping clips from the videos. It’s easy to see all of the included videos, and each one is just a tap away without any UI buttons, cluttered menus, or any barrier between you and the video that interests you. It’s great to see the overview page of flowing clips arranged around screen, and once you open a video, you can simply swipe down to go back to the main page. The app is a bit like Yahoo News Digest in providing a clean daily edition, and there’s even a cleaner flow to view all of the stories on one page in video form. You can go back to view past editions, and each video collection will have some appeal to varying interests.
Hyper (Free, iPad) delivers an outstanding daily source of high quality and interesting video content in a streamlined package.
