The iPhone is capable of all sorts of things, but at the most basic level it is actually a phone. Apple’s phone and contacts app are relatively rudimentary, which leaves the door open for third party developers to offer better alternatives. One Touch Dial is aiming to be one such app by offering a contact based speed dial that does more than just calls. For each of your contacts, you can connect with phone, text, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Email, Instagram, or a specific URL.
The main app interface provides a thumbnail grid of contacts, and you simply tap on one of the squares to get in touch with that person. If a person only has one contact method, that will initiate with a tap, but if there are multiple ways to get in touch, a little menu will appear with icons for each method. Once you get the backend contact data connected, it is definitely speedy to get in touch with your contacts in multiple ways. You can also customize the size, and layout of each contact icon to personalize the home screen of the app. The one drawback is that it takes awhile to connect each individual contact to the app, and then you have to remember to swipe to activate each different contact method.
One Touch Dial ($1.99 -> Free, iPhone) is a whole new way to get in touch with your friends and family, in whatever form is right for the situation.
