Your iPhone keeps track of a lot of data since it goes with you almost everywhere. The device can be a personal log of many things you do, but the data it collects is scattered across different apps, and services. Rove is a new app that transforms the potential of the iPhone as a daily log into a real journal. It’s a completely automatic journal app, so you don’t need to do anything to have a detailed log of your daily activities. The app keeps track of your movement, photos, and places automatically, and serves it all up in a slick looking timeline view. As long as you have your iPhone in your pocket with the Rove app installed, all of your daily activities will be recorded to look back over later.
Each day is composed of any trips you took, ranging from a walk around the block to a drive around town, and even a flight across the country. A map is included within the timeline with details on time, miles, and type of transportation with the major destinations detailed as well. In addition to the map, any photos you take are integrated into the timeline as well, while tying in the location data. The timeline view is made for iOS 7, and you can swipe through photos, or zoom in on the map within the timeline. You can also tap on any section to view the items full screen, and you can manually add notes to any automatic entry. The value of creating such a deluxe journal entry automatically, complete with locations and photos, can’t be understated. Rove is like a few other apps, and it essentially combines the functionality of the automatic photo journal Memoir with the automatic location tracking of Moves into one app. It also works similarly to Momento, just with location and photos instead of Momento’s focus on social media. Imagine if these services could be combined into one app, then you would have a perfect automatic journal. It’s worth noting that Rove does use GPS in the background, which can drain battery, but it’s extremely optimized to use minimal battery. Also, your data is 100% private.
Rove (Free, iPhone) is a great utility to have on your iPhone as you just install it, and it does the rest. You can go back to the app anytime to see a culmination of what you did on any given day without ever thinking about the app while you’re enjoying your days.
