Gamefly is a great resource that provides a Netflix style discs to your door service, but for video games instead of movies. Recently, they have dabbled in iOS game development, and have a brand new release in the form of Song Blaster. It’s a vertical shooter that uses your music to create the playing field. There are a number of music games in the App Store that usually provide a Guitar Hero style with a few others offering a roller coasterto ride. Song Blaster is relatively unique with the arcade space shooter style, and you get to blast away music notes that come flying on screen. The notes are supplied based on the intensity of a song from your music library, and each song creates a unique level.
Everything is designed for quick pick up and play as you simply drag your finger over your ship to move it, and the ship fires automatically. The more upbeat a song is, the more action packed a levels become, and the level changes flow with the track. There are bonuses for the intro, and finale as well as special blasts at key moments in the songs. Song Blaster does a good job of analyzing the tracks for a solid game flow, though most of the time you’re just blasting away everything that appears. The game includes a mission system, power-ups, and extras that also tie into some optional in-app purchases. Mostly though, you’re playing a game along with your favorite tracks.
