We all want our smartphones to perform at their best – longest battery life possible, fastest streaming possible, smoothest processing possible. In almost every instance out there, though, our phones get bogged down with constantly-running background apps, unnecessary files and more. But don’t fret! There’s an app that can fix that. Well, there are multiple apps, but today we’re going to focus on one in particular: Droid Optimizer by Ashampoo GmbH & Co KG.
What I like most about Droid Optimizer is its simplicity. Tech junkies and luddites alike can use and benefit from this app. All the information and clean-up options you need are on one main screen, with your free RAM, free space, and Optimizer “rank” displayed right up at the top. You can tap on any of those to see details, including which apps are currently running. Tapping on an individual app gives you the option to shut it down, or you can close them all using the “Close all” button.
Optimization options are separated into a few different categories — 1-Touch Speed Up, Clean Up, Automatic, App Manager and Privacy Advisor.
A simple tap of the 1-Touch Speed Up option quickly shuts down background apps to free up memory. Tapping the Clean Up option will take you to a secondary screen where you can scan for and delete junk files, manage which apps start or stop on boot, or take instant actions like quickly stop background apps and clean your cache.
The Auto Clean Up is exactly that – a feature that allows you to schedule clean-ups at regular intervals. You can choose to clean your cache and stop background apps, all while enabling an app whitelist that ensures the apps you want to keep running will stay running during clean-up. The Auto Clean Up feature also includes a Good Night Scheduler, where you can schedule a bit of energy conservation during times you’re not using your phone.
In the App Manager, you can view permissions and services details for all your apps, turn them off or turn them on, and add them to your app whitelist. Privacy Advisor will scan your apps and display those “suspicious” apps that have critical permissions like access to your contacts or account authentication. You can turn off any suspicious apps in Privacy Advisor to secure your phone better.
A simple Settings button at the bottom right-hand corner of the app lets you change the widget update interval, tweak the 1-Touch Speed Up Settings , create a homescreen shortcut and reset the kill-counter for all apps. You can also select and de-select whether or not your phone is rooted.
Droid Optimizer is easy to use, quick to run, and helps your phone operate at its best. And it’s free! What’s not to love?
