SlideLock made its debut appearance on the Google Play Store just two months ago, and has been recognized as the most elegant, user-friendly and feature-packed lockscreen replacement ever since it took the entire Android user base by storm. So, consequently, we’ve decided to bring the application its very own review here on Cult of Android.
The concept behind SlideLock is a fairly simple one; users have the ability to view all of their notifications directly on their lockscreen without having to unlock their smartphone or tablet to access the integrated notification centre.
Once installed, you will notice that your handset’s display will light up when you receive a notification and a little badge along with a description of the contents will slide in from the left-hand side of the screen. You will then have the choice of either swiping to the right to open the application that the notification is relevant to, or swiping to the left to dismiss and mark the said notification as read.
As you’d expect, SlideLock is also jam-packed full of the latest and greatest customization tools that any third-party lockscreen replacement has to offer, enabling you to log which applications you would like to receive notifications from, create custom notification settings (sound, vibration and LED color) for individual apps, alter the behaviour of specific notifications, and, finally, giving you the option to mirror notifications to a Pebble Smartwatch if you’re lucky enough to own one.
Although this app does deliver its promise of providing users with a reliable iOS-like lockscreen for Android devices, it’s still a little rusty around the edges. For example, at this precise moment in time SlideLock doesn’t allow users to implement any form of security measures, so if you want to keep your device secure you’ll need to use two lockscreen launchers in combination with each other in order to do so. In addition, the app also lacks lockscreen music controls, so if you want to skip or pause a song, you’ll have to unlock your phone and head into your music player of choice.
Despite these fairly major drawbacks, we still firmly believe that SlideLock is one the best third-party lockscreen client that we have tested here at Cult of Android, and if your in the market for a lockscreen replacement, look no further.
