The Next Web recently reported that WIPO cleared the way for Apple by awarding it the iPhone5.com domain. One can see the recent update on WIPO website where it posted that domain has been ‘Terminated’.
Very few people know that iPhone5.com came into existence in 2008 in a form of an online bulletin board. Interestingly, there was no clue regarding the owners of this web portal but at the same time, these anonymous owners claimed that this website was neither endorsed nor sponsored and it was not even allied with Apple in any sense.
The motive behind this website was to provide entertainment and to satiate the seekers quest for knowledge. Apple is least bothered about releasing a 6th generation iPhone with iPhone 5 moniker but the main reason behind seeking the possession of iPhone5.com domain is to prevent others from taking undue advantage of its trademark.
People often mistakenly take these domains (iPad.com, iBooks.com or iBookstore.com) for Apple domain. There is a strong possibility that in the matter of upcoming iPhone, Apple will continue to follow its new trend where it did shun the numbering system by referring the latest iPad as new iPad simply.
The decision of acquiring iPhone5.com domain is certainly apt as it’s always better to play safe. Pointless to say, that Apple Inc. certainly must be ecstatic after getting rid of a thorny issue of iPhone5.com domain.
