Have unveiled their latest iPhone today, and not only that but two of them as expected. The two new iPhone’s are much bigger than the existing iPhone 5s’s 4″ and run at 4.7″ and a 5.5″. Apple has been seriously lagging behind other manufacturers such as Samsung when it comes to big screens but finally they have caught up.
Both new devices have many synergies when it comes to specs and looks and indeed the new rounded and curved design is more akin to the iPad Air. The new design is very different yet you will instantly know it’s and iPhone, and for once I am hugely impressed with the design of an iPhone, well done Time Cook and the Apple design team.
The new screens are described as “Ion- Strengthened” but sadly there was no mention of Sapphire glass so it would appear that the leaks were wrong on this one. The new A8 and M8 processors are debuting in these new devices and the A8 while being smaller than the A7 in the 5S is 25% faster. The new M8 processor can distinguish between walking and running so health geeks will be happy.
The new iPhone 6 devices support a massive 20 LTE bands, more than any other smartphone accroding to Apple so no matter where you are in the world you should be well sorted for LTE. A new WiFi transmitter which supports 802.11ac is now up to 3 times faster than the 5S.
Camera wise the iPhone 6 has not changed much with an 8MP sensor on board again but a newer one than that found on the 5S and it also have dual LED flash. It can now record not only in 120FPS slow motion but also 240FPS too, so now you can make super slow motion videos to your hearts contention. The smaller of the two iPhone 6′s uses digital image stabilization where as the larger 5.5 version has full optical image stabilization so technically the 5.5″ version is superior.
Apple have also introduced Apple Pay which will now let you make secure mobile payments via NFC using Apple’s TouchID sensor. Payments are made via secure dynamic tokens and data transmitted via an NFC chip in the top of the iPhone. So far America Express, VISA and Master Card are accepted and Apple say that 22,000 retailers have signed up for access.
The two new iPhone 6′s will launch with iOS 8 on September 26th to order and prices will be (please sit down):
4.7″ 16GB – €699
4.7″ 64GB – €799
4.7″ 128GB – 899
5.5″ 16GB – €799
5.5″ 64GB – €899
5.5″ 128GB – 999
I think I will speak for everyone when I say that these are extortionate prices, do I think people will still buy the new iPhone 6, hell yes.
