A new report indicates Apple is reportedly going to give the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 a total revamp next year
Well, here we go again. Digitimes is reporting that Apple is set to give their top two devices, the iPad 3 and upcoming iPhone 5, a major overhaul in 2012.
According to sources in the supply chain, DigiTimes says Apple will have an inventory of next-generation iPads with about 2 million units by the end of 2011. That massive number of new iPads would hint that a launch might be coming early next year.
The upgraded iPad 2/iPad 3, which has been rumored before, is said to feature a new, thinner design and mind-blowingly longer battery life. A resolution of 2048x536 pixels is also possible for the display. The report says if that can't be achieved though, the company will fall back to a resolution of 1600x1200.
As for the iPhone 5 overhaul, no specifics were mentioned by Digitimes except that it would launch in the first half of 2012 and that it would be redesigned completely. This certaily seems very likely as a redesigned iphone 5 was expected this year. As The Verge reported earlier, the device is expected to have a tear-drop shape, be extremely light and thin, and have a 4-inch display.
Obviously, Apple ended up releasing the iPhone 4S instead, which shares the same design as the previous generation iPhone 4. However, as SlashGear points out, based on Apple's release pattern, it seems certain that the 2012 iPhone will receive a new design.
So, will the redesign happen? Is the report true? Who knows, but as awlays I suggest you take everything with a grain of salt, especially reports from Digitimes which has track record of being wrong on small things, but so very right on big things.
But if the report is indeed true, it definitely seems like 2012 will be the year Apple changes everythining. I for one can't wait to find out.
Definitely an excting year to come if you're an Apple fan.
