There are two official Apple iPhone 6s cases available, and this year we chose the extremely colorful Apple iPhone 6s silicon case in bright orange, which just so happens to match our new Apple Watch Band.
Here’s a look at how the official Apple iPhone 6s silicone case feels, protects and looks on the new iPhone.
Is the iPhone 6s Silicone case worth buying?
After using the leather iPhone case last year, I opted for the Orange Apple Silicone iPhone 6s case that looks a lot better in person than it does in photos. If you love orange, this is certainly a case to consider.
If you aren’t a fan of orange, there are 10 other colors to choose from. This is a very thin case so it does not add much to the thickness of the iPhone 6s — which is itself slightly thicker than the iPhone 6. You can use these new cases on the iPhone 6 if you want access to the new colors.
A soft interior prevents any scuffs or scratches.
The inside of the Apple iPhone 6s case is covered in microfiber to protect the finish of your iPhone while inside.
One of the nice things about this thin case is that there is a lip that keeps the screen off tables and other surfaces when placed face down. This is something you may do more often thanks to a new iOS 9 feature that doesn’t light up the display when it is face down with Low Power Mode on.
Edges keep the screen off rough surfaces.
The raised edges don’t interfere with the new iPhone 6s 3D Touch feature that includes a press on the edge of the screen to activate multitasking and quick action home screen shortcuts.
Apple’s design allows full access to ports and buttons without any compromises, which is common in thin cases like this. There is an Apple logo on the back in a slightly different shade of orange, that is similar to the logo on the iPhone.
This silicone is much easier to grip than an iPhone 6s without a case. It is not too grippy to put in a pocket or get out of a pocket, but I noticed after almost a week of use that it does catch slightly more on gym short pockets than it did on the first day, so this is something I will continue to monitor.
The official Apple iPhone 6s silicone case matches the Apple Watch band in orange.
With a thin design this will not protect your iPhone 6s from huge drops, but it makes the phone easier to hold and will prevent scratches. Users who are prone to repeatedly dropping their iPhone may want to consider other options.
The Speck CandyShell Clear is the first clear iPhone 6s case from Speck, and the first clear case from the company overall. This form-fitting, minimalist iPhone 6s case delivers a decent amount of protection with a military drop test 810G rating.
Speck assures us that the clear case will not yellow with use like many cheap clear case options. The clear finish is perfect for showing off your iPhone 6s color choice while protecting it.
Buttons move perfectly and are easy to find by touch and there is a raised front bezel to keep the iPhone 6s display off hard surfaces.
