Are you still upset your new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus wont be arriving with a sapphire crystal display? Dont be. A new report from Time says that Apple was never going to use the new material on this years iPhone models.
They note that sapphire was never targeted for the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and its role in future iPhones hasnt been decided yet.
Also, anyone who knows the manufacturing process knows that to make tens of millions of screens for an iPhone launch, the orders for those screens had to be put in place well over six months ago and planned meticulously into the final manufacturing of these new smartphones.
So why were all of the rumors wrong? Apples hefty investment in GT Advanced, a sapphire manufacturing company, led all of us assumed that this meant Apple would put sapphire screens in the new iPhones. Instead, the material is being used on the Apple Watch, which will be available in early 2015.
Remember this story when we begin hearing rumors that the iPhone 6s will feature a sapphire crystal display.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus arrive in stores on Friday, Sept. 19 withion-strengthened curved glass (Gorilla Glass) instead of sapphire.
