In a clear sign that we’ve entered iPhone 6 hype territory, media in Taiwan are reporting that Apple’s biggest two manufacturing partners are boosting their ranks with record recruiting drives to help build the soon-to-be-announced device.
Economic News Daily reports [translated] that Foxconn (which is known in Taiwan as Hon Hai, and said to produce 70 percent of Apple’s mobile devices) is hiring as many as 100,000 new workers to cover the additional demand. Pegatron, the company that picks up the remainder of the production slack, is believed to be increasing staff numbers by one-third at a key plant in China.
In keeping with its usual schedule, Apple is expected to launch the latest version of its iPhone later this year. Recent reports suggest it will also release its first (but much-speculated) smartwatch in October.
