There have since long been rumors swirling in the market regarding a 7.85-Inch iPad release date and once again they seem to have surfaced as John Gruber of Daring Fireball fame revealed on a recent talk show. In a conversation at a podcast with 5by5′s Dan Benjamiin, Gruber claimed that the Cupertino was considering on a mini iPad, a 7.85-inch with a 1024×768 resolution.
Gruber stated that the 7.85-inch iPad is in the making at Apple’s super secret Cupertino labs and that this mini iPad launch date could be the same as that of the WWDC. However, he even went on to say that till then a public release of the device was not quite definite.
According to Gruber, the 7.85-Inch iPad features would be a lot similar to the 9.7 inch one except for the shrunken size. Even the apps were considered to be going to be the same without any redesigning needed. And going by previous reports of Apple’s future products from Gruber which have proved to be accurate enough, we can believe this one to an extent.
Although Gruber said that he “wouldn’t be surprised if it never ships”, he was also quite sure that Apple was indeed playing with the idea of a mini iPad and that the 7.85-Inch iPad release date was likely to be this summer at the WWDC if in case it was to start being shipped after the convention. And according to the overseas supply chain rumors, the device will be coming later than that. Renowned publications like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal have also been found reporting of the possibility of the making of the mini iPad.
