PlayStation 4 doesn’t offer backwards compatibility like the Xbox One does, however, it will allow console owners to play games originally released for PlayStation 2 on their current-gen console. Those titles have to be ported over to the PS4 first before they can be played so it’s not like you can just pop a PS2 disc in the new system and start playing the game, which means that the selection isn’t as impressive as it is on the Xbox One. Sony confirmed today that Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is the next PS2 title to be launched on PS4.
Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is a role-playing game that Sony published for PlayStation 2 way back in 2003. It was previously revealed in a video hyping some PS2 titles coming to the PS4 that the last two titles from the Arc the Lad series will make their way to the current console.
As previously mentioned since the PlayStation 4 is not backwards compatible you can’t just pop in a disc in the console and expect the game to run. This port is only available as a digital download that’s sold separately, those who are looking to play Arc the Lad on their PlayStation 4 will first need to download the title from the PlayStation Store.
Sony has not yet revealed how much the digital download is going to cost, it did confirm that Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is going to be launched on PlayStation 4 on Tuesday, January 12th, 2016.
