Yo, yo, yo! Word to yo momma! And a big hello to your father too, probably! Yes, changing my name inexplicably from Pritchard to P. Ritchie, tossing on some grotesque gold chains, knocking back the Courvoisier, dabbling in gun crime and picking a fight with the west coast (particularly the Bude massive), you’ll believe a middle-aged, middle class white man can rap. And if I can, so can you…
For me rapping is little more than orating violently offensive poetry to somebody else’s music. But as much as I may fail to understand it, I’ve always quite fancied the sickening amount of money that goes with it, so that one day I too could have a ‘crib’ rather than a semi in a market town in Essex.
The premise here, then, is gloriously simple: take a classic Hippetty Hoppetty track and record your own vocals over it, mix it, save it and then instantly share it with others of your illin’ ilk via Twitter, (shot in the) Facebook or on your The Art of Rap website itself.
With choons to choose from covering the likes of Cypress Hill (lovely at this time of year), Snoop Dogg and 2Pac, there’s plenty here that’s both tight and, indeed, dope to keep the aspiring Vanilla Ice or Will Smith rappin’ and mixin’ until they be rollin’ in scrillah; whatever that means.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Even if you’re as hapless and rapless when it comes to this app(less) as me, The Art of Rap can be a lot of fun to play with, especially the more ludicrous your lyrics are. Simple to use, with a clean and clear interface, will it earn you as much cheese as Puff Diddly? I don’t know. Will there be fun and lots of larfter? Fo shizzle…
