The Asus Padfone 2 is expected to be released on October 16th, less than a week away. Information on this 3-in-1 device is leaking out slowly as we now learn some of the specs of the device thanks to an Italian website eeepc.it. What we have learnt is that the gadget will sport a quad core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, which might as well be an S4 version. Earlier, we learnt that the 3-in-1 Android device has impressed enthusiasts and may be one of the most anticipated since the iPhone. The hype is grown since it is a hybrid device expected to bring something new to the market.
The spec sheet does not have that many surprises though, all its specifications may be shared with one or two devices already in the market. The interesting thing though is that it combines the best of all into one and those who will be going for it may get a bargain for the three gadgets. It is said that Asus will be unveiling the Asus Padfone 2 live on YouTube starting at 11 in the morning in Milan, Italy on Tuesday October 16th (5 am EDT) – if you are an enthusiast do not miss this event.
The Asus Padfone is an interesting creation of the company that brought the popular Transformer family of tablets as well as Google’s Nexus 7 as it is a phone, a tablet and a mini-laptop, that is why it is a 3-in1 device. The specs are not clear yet though but we speculate that it will be one hell of a powerful gadget given its spectrum of application.
According to the Italian site eeepc.it, the Padfone 2 will also sport 2GB of RAM, a 2,140 mAh battery and will have an impressive 13 Megapixels rear camera. It also appears that the device will have a 4.7 inch 1280 x 720 pixels resolution screen, an improvement from the original Padfone’s 4.3 inch 540 x 960 pixels display. Word is that it will feature the standard tablet and smartphone specs including WiFi, cellular data including GSM, 3G and 4G LTE, Bluetooth and NFC and of course GPS among others.
Another piece of news out of Italy is that Asus Padfone will be available for sale right after unveiling. This means that if you want one, you could have it as early as 20th of this month, or latest by the end of October! This was confirmed on Asus Italy’s Facebook page on a post that read “the product will be immediately after unveiling available for sale” and “people will certainly not have to wait for months.” If that is not a confirmation enough, I don’t know what is.
What we may not know as of now though is whether the Padfone 2 will be made available globally, in Europe and North America for starters or whether it will only sell in selected markets. If these specifications are right, then this will be the first formidable competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 on the market yet. It is less than a week away but I somehow feel that there will be leaks some time before the launch on the device, and if any come our way, we sure will share them with you.
