Although Asus started selling the original Padfone only several months ago, it already has a successor to it. As we reported not long ago, the new device is called Asus Padfone 2, and will be officially unveiled on October 16.
The Padfone 2 will be a high-end device. Previous rumors had it that it would come with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.
Taiwanese website DigiTimes adds that the new Padfone will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean – which, of course, shouldn’t be a surprise (although we’re still seeing flagship devices with Ice Cream Sandwich – see the LG Optimus G for example).
DigiTimes also notes that the Padfone 2’s screen size and resolution have been improved. The first Padfone has a qHD display, so I guess the new one will go HD. In any case, initial shipment volumes are expected to be limited. We’ll find out more when the phone-tablet hybrid is announced.
