We have some good news for Samsung Infuse 4G owners on AT&T as your smartphone is finally being upgraded from Android 2.2 (Froyo) to Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread). While it is not as exciting as Ice Cream Sandwich on the 4G smartphone, it’s a step in the right direction and should offer numerous improvements.
The Android 2.3 rollout began yesterday, and to access and install the update, you will have to do so using Samsung’s proprietary Kies software. Below is a full list of the updates you can expect from the Gingerbread updates:
New Fonts options added include Choco Cooky, Cool Jazz, Rosemary
Keyboard Changes: Android Keyboard with Wider Spaced keys and Quick Keys at the top
New Widgets: The name of the content provider will be listed on the widget list along with the widget name. Previously only the widget name was provided.
New Widget: Traffic (Android) added to list of available widgets
Menu Changes/New Apps: Downloads and Google Books added new, Promotional pre-load of Angry Birds removed
The only downside to the Android 2.3 update is the fact that the pre-loaded Angry Birds game will be removed, but that can always be downloaded again through the Android Market. Hopefully the update process goes smoothly, and feel free to let us know in the comments how Gingerbread feels on your Infuse 4G.
