We’ve covered quite a lot of accessories with Apple’s iPad in mind, from simple stands, speaker docks, to mounts and a whole bunch of different kinds of cases. Today, we intend to add to that list by covering yet another simple, and mostly overlooked accessory that would make the usage of your iPad a whole lot easier. Read on as we take a look at the best iPad charging docks.
Before we dive in, I would just like to note that all that will be mentioned in the list below will utilize Apple’s Lightning connector, unless specified otherwise.
Starting off this is list would be my personal favourite. Belkin has been known to provide quality accessories for just about smartphone and tablet out there, and a charging dock is no exception. In term of functionality, it is one of the best there is out there. You are given the option to choose whether you would want your dock to have either one or two connectors, so you can connect two tablets if you want to. Furthermore, if you would want to get the one with two connectors, you can also choose between having two Lightning connectors, or having both the 30-pin and Lightning connector. What makes this dock especially unique is the dial located at the back which allows you to adjust the Lightning connector to easily fit your iPad even with the case on. The 4-feet lightning cable attached to this dock also allows you to connect easily to your USB adapter to charge, or to your laptop to sync your iPad. Personally, I would have wanted the cable to be detachable for easier portability, but that isn’t exactly a deal breaker. This may be a bit heavy on the pocket, but overall, this dock provides you with just what you need in any charging dock you may be looking for.
This charging dock is one of the more uniquely minimalist docks out there without compromising style. It has a very professional, yet simple look and essence to it. With height-adjusting cable clips, Twelve South assures us the compatibility of this dock with your iPad and a variety of cases that you may be sporting your tablet with. It must be noted that this dock only comes with tablets having Apple’s Lightning connector. One key benefit we can see from its design is that the sound would not be muffled when we play music while the iPad is being docked. Not all docks have this feature and so it is definitely much appreciated. It may not be a deal breaker for some, but for those of you who love playing music and streaming media while your iPad is being docked, then I believe this is one is the dock for you.
This charging dock for your iPads equipped with Apple’s Lightning connector features a rubberized back support to avoid scratching the back of your iPad, especially if you are not using any case. Macally made sure its added weight adds to its stability and gives it a premium feel when holding it. This dock is also the only one on this list that comes with a USB adapter, which is rated at 12Watts(5V/2.4A). What that means is that you are given an adapter that is equipped to charge your iPad fairly quickly. This dock may be a bit pricey, but that may be due to the included adapter. To add to that, this dock may not be compatible with some of your cases, especially if you are sporting those very bulky ones like those of OtterBox. That said, this dock is better suited for those having thinner cases, or even having none at all.
Hold on for a second, didn’t we say that this list would showcase the best charging docks for your iPad? Yes, this dock was made by Apple with iPhones specifically in mind, but this dock actually suits surprisingly well for iPads. This does not come with any cable, adapter, and the like. You would need to use your own adapter and cable to be able to use this dock. Nevertheless, you are still getting a dock from the company that made our iPads in the first place. It may be quite heavy on the pocket, I mean it’s Apple we are talking about here for crying out loud, but in return you get a premium dock from Apple and the peace of mind that comes with it if it means that much to you.
Capping of this list is the OtterBox of charging docks. As featured on the Apple site itself, this charging tray by Bretford is made of steel and is equipped with a programmable combination lock. To add to that, you can also lock this tray with another pad lock if the need may rise. With this tray, you can charge 10 iPads simultaneously. It comes with 10 pre-installed Bretford Lightning to USB cables so you can use this as soon as you get it. Furthermore, the integrated LEDs show the charging status of each of your iPads. Personally, I don’t see this to be very practical in a household, but that this is more suitable for larger organizations given all the security and safety measures that has been put into this charging tray, and the price tag that comes with it.
So there you have it, the best charging docks for your iPad. Which of these charging docks are you using? Is there any that you think should be on this list? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below!
