Entertainment may be the main use of the modern tablet, but productivity is quickly becoming the next most prevalent method to get the most out of your purchase. In terms of Apple’s tablets, there are few accessories that improve productivity more than a keyboard, to that end, join us as we explore the best iPad keyboard cases.
Unlike some of our more device targeted lists, this is one of our general accessory lists, we’ll steer you toward device specific list at the end here today.
What do we look for in a case? That’s a pretty simple answer for our needs, let’s see if yours are similar. First and foremost, a good keyboard must be sturdy and provide great support for the iPad itself. There is no point having a keyboard if you can’t use it because the tablet keeps falling over. From there, something resembling a full size keyboard is important, we are accustomed to typing on a typical QWERTY keyboard, we don’t want to learn something new, or retrain our fingers to operate in a smaller space.
Finally, a keyboard case should also provide all of the necessary protection for our tablet, we do not want to have to find extra protection, adding extra weight and bulk.
Apple Smart Keyboard
While certainly not the first to offer a keyboard for your iPad, Apple stepped things up a notch with the introduction of the iPad Pro. Continuing this new approach to tablets, Apple has created the Smart Keyboard, a magnetically detachable keyboard that doubles as a cover for your iPad Pro and iPad Pro 9.7.
Introduced along with new multi-tasking features in iOS, the Smart Keyboard was likely Apple’s attempts to compete with Surface Pro 4, a WIndows powered 2-in-1 tablet from Microsoft. We applaud the effort and certainly believe that the Smart Keyboard is the accessory that makes this competition possible.
In one of the more practical designs for a productive iPad case, the JETech rotating Bluetooth keyboard case and stand offers everything in the name. A protective case acts as a multi-angle stand, including the ability to rotate your iPad Mini 4 into portrait mode, and a decent Bluetooth keyboard will help you get the most out of your work day. We would have liked to see a smart switch on this battery powered keyboard, but the manual power button is easily accessed, as are the handful of iOS shortcut keys.

A familiar name with our other iPad cases coverage, the Fintie iPad mini 4 Keyboard case is a PU-leather case for your tablet. Equipped with all of the securities of a full case, including a loop to hold a stylus, this case rocks a super basic Bluetooth keyboard and acts as a stand.
With little more to say, check out the Fintie iPad mini 4 Keyboard case for as little as $17.33 on Amazon.
One thing that benefits iPad Mini users is that when paired with the right case, carrying around your iPad Mini would just like be carrying around a notebook. This keyboard case by Anker could be just one of them, thanks to its synthetic leather exterior which should closely resemble a notebook. Its features comes pretty standard and are the most fundamental ones when it comes to Bluetooth keyboard cases: multiple viewing angles and a smart cover.
Anker also puts a lot of emphasis on the case’s battery life, featuring power saving modes and a high capacity battery, which Anker claims to be able to last your for over 4 months, as compared to 6 months for the iPad Air version. It looks pretty long at first glance, but like I said on the best keyboard cases for the iPad Air, it has “4 months” written all over it but Anker fails to emphasize along with it that that is only the case if you use it for up to 2 hours per day. In other words, its battery life would be approximately 120 hours. That still isn’t bad considering the competition, but emphasizing “4 months” while leaving out “2 hours per day” is a bit disappointing. Marketing strategy, I guess. Nonetheless, this keyboard case for your iPad Mini is still a solid option.
We are somewhat reminded of the Otterbox cases when looking at this keyboard case by New Trent, and rightfully so as this case gives your iPad Mini a very rugged look. That being said, the rugged look it gives is not just for the sake of looks, but for protection. Its rugged design with a rubberized outer body makes your iPad Mini splash resistant, dirtproof, and shockproof. The case also comes with a multi-adjustable stand for horizontal and vertical positions, and a smart cover to automatically sleep/wake your iPad. For those of you going on an adventure, or for those of you who simply want the hardcore protection this keyboard case gives, this one is definitely worth a look.
Have you had enough? As I am sure you are aware, there are hundreds of cases, covers and keyboards out there for all of the various iPad models. It can be difficult to wade through them all, so we did it for you.
Are there any great iPad keyboard cases out there that we missed today?
