It’s been 20 years since Ridge Racer first launched, and in celebration of this milestone Namco is bringing a brand new game in the series to our iDevices. Called Ridge Racer Slipstream, the game is set to reach the App Store on Dec. 19, according to the developer-publisher.
As of this writing, little is known about the forthcoming title, save for the fact that it places emphasis on car cusomization and offers an impressive 300 different customization options.
There are also plenty of power-ups on offer, too, allowing users to have their car boost and even launch into the air mid-race.
Of course, this won’t mark the first time a Ridge Racer title has launched in the App Store. Back in 2009, Ridge Racer Accelerated offered iDevice users a Ridge Racer experience for iOS, and the game can still be downloaded for $5.99.
However, this app hasn’t been updated since 2011, and it doesn’t support 4-inch screens or Apple’s Retina display.
Namco has released a trailer video for the game, and explains in its description:
Namco Bandai’s Ridge Racer Slipstream drives onto mobile devices soon! Drift, drive, dodge, dash, and dominate the track in the newest game from the series as it celebrates its 20th year!
As mentioned, Ridge Racer Slipstream is set to drift into the App Store on Dec. 18, and from what we’re hearing it looks like the title will be free-to-play. We’ll let you know once it’s available to download.
