The news means that at long last, users can download movies and TV shows for offline viewing – anywhere and without the need for a data connection. Blinkbox Movies users need only update the app to gain the ability.
"Tired of reading second-hand newspapers on the daily commute? Going on holiday and want to catch up on your favourite TV shows? Trying to keep your delighted and entertained on a long car trip? If you’re one of blinkbox’s iPad users, these problems are now a thing of the past!," said Blinkbox in a blog post.
There are a few clauses to bear in mind with the download feature. Firstly, you'll need a UK Wi-Fi connection when downloading content. That's not really a big deal but if you download a rental title, you won’t be able to watch it on any other device, including the Google Chromecast.
The other detail is that your iPad must be connected to a UK-based Wi-Fi connection at least once every 30 days for the purpose of keeping licenses up-to-date.
We've asked Blinkbox about when this feature will arrive on Android and will get back to you as soon as we hear anything.
