BLU has today made available a new smartphone, the BLU R1 Plus. As the name suggests, this seems to be the latest from the company’s popular R1 line and follows on from the BLU R1 HD from last year. Like its namesake, the BLU R1 Plus looks to offer a decent level of specs for the price. Which in this case, comes in at $159.99. As is usually the case with BLU smartphones, the BLU R1 Plus is being sold as an unlocked device and is now available to buy from the likes of Amazon and Best Buy.
In terms of the specs, the BLU R1 Plus comes equipped with a 5.5-inch display along with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Inside, the BLU R1 Plus comes loaded with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and is powered by a Mediatek MT6737 quad-core SoC (clocking at 1.3 GHz). On the camera side of things, the BLU R1 Plus comes packing a 13-megapixel rear camera, along with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. While additional features worth noting include the option to expand the storage via microSD (up to 64GB), dual-SIM support, and 4G LTE support. This is a device that comes powered by a 4,000 mAh battery and comes running on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box.
Based on the numbers above, it is clear that this is not designed to compete with the major devices currently available. For one thing, it does come running on Android Marshmallow and at the moment there is no information on whether it will be in line for an Android 7.0 (Nougat) update. However, this is priced accordingly, and if anything, does offer quite good value for those looking to spend under $200 on a smartphone. The battery listed should prove plentiful and the RAM and storage levels are certainly comparable to devices priced higher than this one. Not to mention, this is an unlocked smartphone. Speaking of which, it is a GSM smartphone so will work fine with the likes of AT&T and T-Mobile, but not so well for customers on Sprint or Verizon.
