Bust-A-Move is a classic gaming franchise that put the match three bubble shooter on the map. There have been plenty of iOS games delivering a similar style, but none quite like Bust-A-Move with Bub and Bob. The App Store has got its own share of Bust-A-Move with Bust-A-Move launching in 2009, and New Bust-A-Move coming in 2011. Now, there’s Bust-A-Move Islands, which is a new level based adventure with free to play mechanics. The familiar style returns, combined with some elements of King’s version of Bust-A-Move, Bubble Witch Saga 2.
Bust-A-Move Islands features over 225 different levels with multiple sets that continue to introduce new regions, and story panels. You still have the style of launching bubbles into an arrangement of bubbles up above trying to match at least three to clear the matched bubbles. Bust-A-Move always focuses on clearing specific bubbles to cascade many others, and that’s present in Islands. Bust-A-Move Islands is definitely on the simple side at the outset thanks to the simple tap to aim controls that makes it widely accessible. The first set of levels are overly simplistic, and Bust-A-Move veterans may be turned off by that. If you stick with it though, the difficulty increases once the new temporary consumable power-ups are introduced. As long as you ignore the power-ups in an attempt to keep playing for free, you’re in for a nice challenge that fits the classic Bust-A-Move style.
One of the neatest parts of Bust-A-Move Islands is that it takes advantage of the classic elements of past Bust-A-Move games. You will come across boxes to clear, ricochet shots to make, magic rainbow bubbles, and more. There’s a ton of play through in Bust-A-Move Islands, and you can fully enjoy the game for free with some varied challenges along the way. It might not be the best, or toughest game you will play, but it’s still a fun pastime that is easy to just go from level to level. There may be times where your eyes will glass over in simple stretches, but the levels will come around to be more challenging.
Bust-A-Move Islands (Free, Universal) offers an all new way to Bust-A-Move that is worth picking up.
