LG let us know earlier this week that the LG G5 would be making its way to Canada on April 8 and that just about every carrier from the Big Three to the regional and to the flanker carriers will be selling the new flagship. Rogers has already priced the device at $299.99 on a two-year contract and $799.99 outright, but their flanker brand, Fido just announced their pricing on the LG G5 and it turns out to be very similar. On a two-year Tab24 on a Max plan, it will cost you $300 and outright it will run you $800. In between those two prices, you can pay $400 on a two-year Tab24 on a Smart plan or $550 on a two-year Tab24 Standard plan. Fido will offer the LG G5 in either Silver or Titan (gray).
A few notes about reserving the LG G5 on Fido – they do not appear to be including any extras if you pre-order – both Rogers and Videotron are including a fee LG CAM Plus – a $99 value – upon purchase and activation on a two-year plan. A $40 refundable fee will be applied to your credit card when you reserve, and while they will contact you via email on the status of your order, your reservation does not guarantee that you will receive your LG G5 as soon as it launches.
LG completely redesigned their flagship and the LG G5 is nothing like its predecessor, the LG G4. While the plastic LG G4 looked like brushed metal, the LG G5 is actually an all-metal body, yet still maintains its internal memory expansion and removable battery. LG accomplished this by placing a ‘chin’ at the bottom of the device that can slide out at a push of a button. This is allow the user to slide in modules – for instance, the LG CAM Plus adds a larger battery, camera controls and a grip that allows you to grab the device better for taking pictures. This module turns the LG G5 into a point-and-shoot sort of camera. In addition, a Bang & Olufsen (B&O) attachment adds a much better DAC and better sound reproduction through the headphones. LG is promising an entire array of these types of modules to make the LG G5 more than just a smartphone.
