Rogers Wireless launched its new Anyplace TV Home Edition app for iOS, bringing many of the capabilities US cable users had for quite some time to Canada. In that sense, the new application packs more features than comparable apps from Bell and Telus. For instance, it can act like a remote control for your cable boxes so you can set recordings for your PVR(s), and watch one of 25 live channels while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
As tablets increasingly becoming the second screen for many users, these kind of apps are steadily getting traction among the larger audience. And there’s no reason why Rogers wouldn’t benefit from this trend, bringing its brand to more homes.
Anyway, Anyplace TV HE also packs a full guide, showing you where you are in the day and what content you can expect on a given channel. Moreover, there’s also the ability to search for a favorite show, set it to record, and then watch some other channel on your tablet.
The iPhone users are also covered, though they can use the guide and remote control functions only (no live TV).
Of course, the next stop is Android with such an app hitting Google Play before the end of the year. Windows 8 version will also be developed though at the moment we don’t know when it will be launched.
