Canalys reports that WP through Nokia Lumia, WP’s 69% YOY increase made it the fastest growing platform. I guess, being one of the smallest it’s easier to see such percentage increases? Though the same then should have been said for BBOS 10? WP had 32.1 million sales vs BB’s 19.8 million.
Microsoft saw a percentage point share rise to 3% as shipments increased 90% in 2013 to 32.1 million, driven by Nokia’s Lumia devices, and putting it ahead of BlackBerry, at 19.8 million.
In OS terms, Windows Phone saw the fastest year-on-year growth among the major platforms, at 69%, despite a modest sequential decline of 6% from Q3 2013. This compares favorably with Android shipments, which grew 54% and iOS shipments, which grew just 7%.
Canalys Analyst, Jingwen Wang feels that market uncertainty affected Nokia and Microsoft’s WP related Q4.
Insufficient marketing as Nokia MS deal yet to complete
Failure to stimulate sufficient brand demand with latest lumias in holiday season
Lumia = WP, less Lumia, the whole OS falters.
Integration needs to take place ‘quickly and thoughtfully.
Much for MS to do inorder to continue momentum in growing in the smartphone market.
Driving down entry level prices,
more innovation, features especially at the high end
Encouraging developers, support in building compelling apps, reduce that divide
