If you’ve ever played through a physical escape, such as from a house or just a room, you might want to hone your skills on your iPhone or iPad. Castle Breakout presents a new chapter for the escape games genre on mobile, as it offers you a photo-realistic and polished puzzler medieval-style. Let’s take a look through this newly-updated game that pits you against the clock and various nefarious traps and puzzles.
But Aren’t Castles Meant to Keep People Out?
What with all the drawbridges, moats, arrow loops, and battlements, it seems obvious that most of the security behind a castle is designed to keep people out rather than to lock them in. Those elements, though, can also be used to trap people, and your role in Castle Breakout is to test the security of the fortress from the inside out.
You play as a castle security expert, attempting to outwit the dastardly Guild of Justice and escape from a series of ten beautiful, photo-realistic rooms to identify shortcomings in the castle’s current security arrangements. You’ll be tasked with solving ingenious puzzles that involve swords, spears, potions, pots, crowns, and other medieval bric-a-brac.
A More Polished, Interconnected Experience
Castle Breakout has been available for some time, but Cloudburst, the developers behind the game, have recently made radical changes to the title based on feedback from its fans. The ten rooms throughout the castle are now interconnected, whereas previously each space was self-contained. To master all of the puzzles, you’ll need to obtain certain items from one room and use them to escape another. Judicious use of items becomes crucial, since there’s more than one way to utilize much of what you pick up.
The game’s animations have also been enhanced, providing you with a much more enjoyable experience. The animals that respond to your touch and play a part in solving some of the puzzles are much more life-like now, with realistic animations that you’ll love interacting with.
Getting Involved in the Castle Breakout
Castle Breakout is a free download for your iPhone or iPad on the App Store. It’s also available for macOS and your Apple TV, so you can practice your escape skills on any of your connected devices.
