China has overtaken America to become the world’s fastest growing market for mobile applications, according to new data from mobile analytics firm Flurry.
In February, China accounted for 24 per cent of global smartphone and tablet activations compared to America’s 21 per cent total. Given the world’s most-populus country took up just 8 per cent of the market in January, that’s a ginormous level of growth.
“China’s growth rate is particularly staggering given that it was already the world’s seventh largest country in terms of app sessions by the end of Q1 2011,” explains Flurry. “This speaks to the country’s sheer population as well as increasing affluence among a meaningful part of its population.”
Given China has a mobile users base that’s twice the size of the UK, Flurry claims it will soon be challenging the US in terms of most active smart devices in the world.
